
Port Blair, Aug 16: On 16.08.2023 the anti-poaching team consisting of ASI B.S Halder, HC V. Saji, and PCs Subrata Biswas & Jaspal Singh was on its way to search for foreign poachers in the mangroves and creek area of Loha Tikrey, Khari Nallah where they were suspected to be hidden. Suddenly, the team noticed some movement of the poachers and the team got an alert from ASI B.S Halder. On seeing the Police team the poachers tried to escape into the dense jungle. The team fired warning shots to stop them but they vanished into the jungle. The team courageously followed and rounded them, resulting in the apprehension of 03 poachers successfully.
In an incident, on 15.08.2023 one person namely Rupeshwar S/o Mr. Bimal Soreng R/o Pailoon came to OP Kishorinagar with one Myanmarese National who surrendered himself at his home at Pailoon. The surrendered Myanmarese National was immediately detained at OP Kishorinagar and later shifted to PS Kalighat.
On general interrogation by sign-language, the surrendered Myanmarese National replied that he was alone and hungry for the last 20 days and he didn’t find his group members. On the reply of the surrendered Myanmarese National, it was known that he might have been left by his group as 05 members of his group were already being apprehended by the Police team a few days back. He hides himself in the jungle of Loha Tikrey all these days. The surrendered Myanmarese poachers entered the territorial waters of A&N Islands with vested interest to collect sea cucumbers illegally.
All the 04 apprehended poachers were brought to PS Kalighat and later handed over to PS CCS for further investigation. The entire operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS SP (D) N&MA.
The exemplary bravery shown by the anti-poaching team has been lauded and they will be suitably rewarded. Also, the civilian person is being rewarded for his bravery and an appreciation certificate is also being given.
The general public and fishermen who are venturing in sea are requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to sighting of foreign boats/nationals to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. Their identity will be kept secret and they will be suitably rewarded for their brave act.
