Port Blair, Jan 11: The Councillor of Port Blair Municipal Council of A & N Islands, who was arrested yesterday for allegedly raping a minor, has been sent to Police Remand today.
Mr. Mahinder Prasad, the councilor of Ward No. 7 of PBMC was produced to court this afternoon by A & N Police, from where he was sent to Police Remand for five days.
The case, under section 376 IPC, was registered against him at 4.00 am yesterday at Pahargaon Police Station of South Andaman. The Councillor was finally arrested at 6.30 pm yesterday evening.
According to Police sources the Councillor had promised to marry the 15 years old girl and the girl reportedly alleged that the Councillor had made physical relationship with her.
The arrest was made after the victim with the assistance of ‘Child Help Line’, an NGO, lodged a FIR against the said Councillor at Police Station Pahargaon.
