
Port Blair, Aug 09: Commemorating the International Day of World Indigenous People’s (Vishwa Adivasi Diwas), the Ranchi Association, A&N Islands organized a programme at Chota Nagpur Bhawan, Mohanpura on Wednesday.
Mr. Ravi Horo (IFS), Conservator of Forest (Eco-Tourism) was the Chief Guest and Mr. TSG Bhasker, Director, TSG Foundation was the Special Guest for the event along with other dignitaries.
As part of the programme, Mr. TSG Bhasker and other dignitaries garlanded the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Later, a mass conference was organized at the Birsa Munda Hall. All the dignitaries were felicitated with bouquets and were welcomed with tribal rituals.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. TSG Bhasker deliberated on the various issues affecting the Adivasi/Tribal communities of A&N Islands including their abject poverty, lack of education, health care, opportunities for skill development and difficulties faced in accessing different government schemes and entitlements.
He stressed on the need to support and encourage one another. He also exhorted the youths to exploit their hidden talents so as to uplift the community.
The event came to its culmination with a cultural extravaganza presented by tribal youths.
The entire programme was hosted and coordinated by Mr. Sebastian Tirkey, Secretary, Ranchi Association while the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Sushil Kumar Singhi, Joint Secretary, Ranchi Association.
