Port Blair, Aug 08: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI wrote a letter to the Union minister for Road Transport & Highways with respect to the issue of National Highway No-4, North & Middle Andaman District.
In his letter Mr. Jolly highlighted that the poor quality of work done by the awarded contractors at few stretches.
He highlighted that there are three major bad stretches and all were awarded to M/s. Vasishta Company. It may also be noted that M/s. Mantena Vasishta is also a sister concern of M/s. Vasishta Company. These three major stretches of roads are:
• Around 22 Km of stretch between Baratang to Azad Hind FaujSetui.e 107 Km chainage to 129 Km.
• Around 12 Km of stretch beyond Rest Camp i.e between 220 Km chainage to 232 Km.
• Around 10 Km of stretch between Kaushalya Nagar to Gate No 15 i.e between is 155 Km chainage to 165 Km
Further he mentioned that all these three chainages have Forest stretches but the Forest Department has given working permission to them on existing road but the Contractor is not performing his work diligently and instead, giving lame excuses. The fault appears largely to be on the part of the Contractor who has failed miserably.
Accordingly, he requested that the existing contract of the present contractor namely M/s. Mantena Constructions Pvt. Ltd. – Vasishta Constructions Ltd. Bridge (JV) may be cancelled and award the work to some other contractor by calling for tender in relation to the balance road work for its early completion.
He further also requested to restart & complete the balance work of the Middle Strait –Baratang Bridge at the earliest, in the larger interest of the people of North & Middle Andaman.
