Port Blair, July 27: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder on Thursday requested the Administration for reconstruction of the wooden bridge at Kalighat Creek of Nischintapur Village which has collapsed due to the devastating flood in the region.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr. Halder has highlighted the issues and grievances faced by the residents of the Village. He said that the bridge has been a vital lifeline for the people, facilitating access to healthcare, education, markets, and essential facilities. However, due to the recent devastating floods that occurred in the Villages, the bridge has been severely damaged and rendered impassable to move through it.
He stated the consequences of this bridge’s destruction which have profoundly impacted the residents in times of emergencies, the bridge acted as a lifeline, enabling the swift movement during medical emergencies and other needs.
He also said that “the residents have been entirely isolated from one part to another, hampering daily life and the isolation caused by the vanished bridge has created tremendous hardship for nearly thousands of population, and they fear that the situation might worsen if prompt action is not taken”.
Mr. Halder has further requested the Administration to take necessary immediate steps to initiate the reconstruction work to sort the distress of the residents.
