Port Blair, July 21: Spices are the high value horticultural crops, which play a major role in the economy of the islands. Variety of spices are being cultivated in different parts of the islands. However, due to lack of awareness on scientific techniques of cultivation and postharvest management, most of the stakeholders have been unable to reap maximum benefits from the cultivation of spices. In order to provide the requisite technical knowhow, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair is going to conduct a three days training programme on “Scientific cultivation of spices for economic prosperity” from August 1 to 3, 2023. The programme would include theory and practical sessions on propagation, cultivation and postharvest management of spice crops besides demonstration of spices and plantation crops based cropping systems.
