
Port Blair, July 12: On receiving intelligence inputs regarding the presence of foreign poachers’ near Loha Tikery, a police team consisting of Insp. Anirudra Mondal, HC/ Santosh Nair & Cts Bushaih, Gopal, Devraj Nair and HG Gautam Saha were formed to conduct an Anti-poaching operation on 10/07/23. The team conducted extensive search at sea & land near the suspected area, and on 11.07.2023, during search, the tireless team noticed movement of poachers in an engine dinghy near Loha Tikrey. Reacting swiftly, the team tried to stop them but on seeing the team, 04 poachers from the dinghy jumped into water and ran into the Mangroves but the rest 04 were not moved from the dinghy. Immediately, the team split into two teams, one approached the dinghy and captured 04 Myanmar poachers, and the other team by risking their life jumped into water and chased the poachers in the Mangroves. After a massive and fearless search in the dense Mangroves, they successfully apprehended the remaining 04 poachers. The team apprehended a total of 08 Myanmar poachers along with their engine dinghy containing a large quantity of sea cucumber.
All apprehended poachers were brought to PS Kalighat for enquiry. The poachers will be handed over to PS CCS for further investigation. The entire operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D) N&MA and the developments during the operation were intimated to SP(D)N&MA by the team in real time using Satellite phone
The exemplary bravery shown by the anti-poaching team has been lauded and they will be suitably rewarded.
The general public and fishermen who are venturing in sea are requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to sighting of foreign boats/nationals to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. Their identity will be kept secret and they will be suitably rewarded for their brave act.
