Port Blair, July 10: Disaster Management Trainings organized from 26.06.2023 to 08.07.2023 for community volunteers (Aapda Mitras) of Car Nicobar and Nancowry Islands under Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme in the Community Hall, Perka, Car Nicobar and Emergency Operation Centre, Kamorta respectively by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with District Administration, Nicobar, Indian Coast Guard (A&N) and 04 Bn, National Disaster Response Force which was concluded on 08.07.2023 in both islands.
At Car Nicobar, the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Dy. Commissioner, Nicobar District appreciated the efforts of all participants and tribal council of Nicobar District for their keenness to attend the 12 days Disaster Management Training. He further elaborated the importance of community involvement in the disaster management activities and training which able them to respond to any disaster/crisis and assist authorities for managing disasters. He also lauded the efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team for successful completion of DM Training of Aapda Mitra (Volunteers) of Car Nicobar and trained them with various life-saving skills to support the community as well as Administration. The Chief Guest and Officers of District Administration, Nicobar distributed DM Training Course Completion Certificates and Identity Cards to all trained community volunteers (Aapda Mitra).
At Kamorta, the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Shiv Singh Meena Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry appreciated the initiative of National Disaster Management Authority and Directorate of Disaster Management for implementation of Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme in their Sub-Division and trained Community Volunteers as Aapda Mitra by the resource persons of Indian Coast Guard (A&N) and National Disaster Response Force. He urged all trained volunteers (Aapda Mitra) to inculcate lifesaving skills /training in their community further to build disaster preparedness at grass root level/ community level. At the end of the occasion, Certificates and Identity cards were distributed to all trained volunteers.
