Port Blair, July 07: The movement of heavily loaded trucks on the Garacharma and Attam Pahad link road has become a major cause for concern.
The stretch between Garacharma and Attam Pahad witnesses dozens of heavily loaded trucks on a daily basis. Unfortunately, this constant operation of heavy trucks, particularly tippers, has taken a toll on the road conditions. The continuous passage of these vehicles has led to severe damage, making it challenging for four-wheelers to navigate without sustaining damages.
Public demand that such damage to public property must be termed illegal and the movement of heavy trucks on the road must be immediately prohibited.
To compound the issue, illegal parking along the road has further exacerbated the difficulties faced by commuters.
The said road has thousands of potholes and in many areas the uneven and wavy surface is causing extensive damages to vehicles.
Mr. Rajesh Pal Govind, the councillor of Ward Number 18, has expressed his concern about the situation. He emphasized the urgent need for the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) to assess the quality of the soil along the road. The presence of soft soil in various areas has resulted in an uneven road surface, necessitating the filling of earth to strengthen its foundation.
A senior officer from the APWD confirmed that an estimate has been submitted, and the tender process for the repair work is currently underway.
General Public of the area are requesting the Chief SEcretary to pay a surprise visit of the road to see how openly public property is damaged due to negligence of authorities.
