Port Blair, July 04: The President of LOTE, Mr. Abhay Kumar, has submitted a formal request to the Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Police Department, seeking an exemption for the driving license requirement in the recruitment process. In his letter, Mr. Kumar emphasized the need for inclusivity and equal opportunities for all candidates, regardless of their driving abilities.
Mr. Abhay Kumar acknowledged that possessing a valid driving license is typically a prerequisite for certain positions within the police department, especially those involving driving official vehicles. However, he highlighted the fact that there are prospective candidates who may have been unable to obtain a license due to various reasons such as financial constraints, geographical limitations, or personal circumstances.
By exempting the driving license requirement, Mr. Abhay Kumar believes that the recruitment process would become more inclusive and accessible. This would ensure that individuals with exceptional skills, qualifications, and dedication to public service are not unfairly disadvantaged. He argued that possession of a driving license should not be the sole determinant of a candidate’s suitability for a role within the police department. Other essential qualities, such as physical fitness, mental aptitude, ethical values, and problem-solving skills, should also be given equal consideration.
Furthermore, Mr. Abhay Kumar highlighted the limited availability of private driving schools on many inhabited islands, preventing aspiring candidates from obtaining driving licenses. Granting exemption in this regard would provide equal opportunities to candidates residing in such areas, who may fulfill all other criteria required to join the esteemed force.
