Port Blair, July 04: The Extended Central Executive Meeting of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association was recently held at Port Blair which discussed various issues pertaining to the Govt. Employees working under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The General Secretary of the Association, Mr. R.Rajendran while presenting the report on the recent activities of the Association, welcomed the gathering and explained to the members about the revival of various branches functioning under the Association. He urged the members to strengthen the Association and work unitedly for the achievement of various long pending demands of the government Employees. Mr. P.Jay Murthy, Secretary of South Andaman Teachers’ Branch briefed about the activities of the branch and welcomed the Administration’s decision to revise the order to delegate the power to sanction the leave of Group B Non-Gazetted Employees upto 20 days by the Head of Office, which has been demanded by the branch on several occasion. Mr. Salman Khan, Secretary, Clerical Cadre Branch briefed on the recent activities of the branch. The Assistant General Secretary, Mr. S.L.Vinjit, urged the members in the meeting to take a resolution for organizing a convention to bring awareness among the govt. employees about the National Pension System and its impact on the future of Govt. employees who are covered under this system. Smt. Suma Nair, Organizing Secretary of the Association expressed serious concern over the shortage of govt. accommodation for the employees posted in Mayabunder area due to non-maintenance of quarters and also raised the demand for providing regular ship service to North & Middle Andaman due to the bad condition of National Highway. Mr. EA Johnson, Finance Secretary presented a detailed report on the Administration’s decision to introduce Deemed University in the Islands and its ill effects on the Govt. employees and students of these islands. Central Office bearers including other members from various branches and sub-committees attended the meeting. Earlier, Mr. R. Papa Rao, President of the Association presided the meeting and welcomed the gathering.
