Port Blair, July 03: During the recent visit to Car Nicobar by the Congress Leaders, they have noticed the deteriorating condition of the passengers shed at Mus Jetty which is in a state of disrepair, with visible signs of damage such as leaking roofs, broken Iron pipes, and damaged seating areas poses a significant inconvenience to the passengers who rely on the jetty for their travel needs.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder said that the passengers shed in Mus jetty serves as a crucial facility for local tribal communities in providing shelter and comfort while waiting for ferry services.
He added that the current condition of the shed not only fails to fulfill its purpose but also creates safety hazards for the users. They have witnessed instances where passengers, especially the elderly and children, struggle to find adequate protection from adverse weather conditions due to the lack of maintenance.
He mentioned that the structure of the shed is deteriorating rapidly as roofing materials have completely worn off, exposing the passengers to rain and intense sunlight poses a significant risk to the health and well-being of the travelers, especially during the monsoon season and scorching summers.
Considering the significance of Mus Jetty, Mr. Halder has requested the Administration to allocate necessary resources and funds for the repair and maintenance work to significantly enhance the overall passenger experience at Mus Jetty and contribute to the safety and well-being of the tribal community.
