Port Blair, July 02: As part of the observance of Helen Keller’s Day on June 27, the Composite Regional Centre A & N Islands organized an ‘Eye Exercise Session-cum-Co-curricular activities’ for the inmates of Abhyudaya Children Home, Directorate of Social Welfare, Ferrargunj on June 28.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate the life and achievements of Helen Keller, a woman who overcame blindness and deafness. The objectives of the programme were to encourage & empower the persons with disability, to improve eye health and to ensure their whole participation through play activities.
Mrs. Sumithamol, Resident Nodal Officer welcomed the gathering and this was followed by a meditation session. Mr. Mathivanan, Orientation Mobility Instructor-cum-Special Educator, Mrs. Kokila, Vocational Trainer- cum-Special Educator and Mrs. Saranyah, Rehabilitation Officer, CRC A&N-Islands conducted various arts & crafts, indoor games and cultural activities along with an adaptive eye exercise session for the inmates of the children home.
