Port Blair, July 02: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has outlined some of the key demands raised by the residents of Baratang Island, appealing to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to consider them seriously.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary he said that addressing these issues would significantly alleviate the hardships faced by the people of Baratang Island.
The Member of Parliament had recently visited Baratang Island, Middle Andaman, and conducted an extensive meeting with the general public and PRI members of the area. During the meeting, several long-pending issues were brought to light, reflecting the genuine concerns of the residents. These issues, which have persisted for decades, require immediate attention and resolution.
The highlighted demands include:
1. De-reservation of 176 Hectares of land in 10 Villages under Baratang Island.
2. Land bearing Survey No: 33 measuring an area of 55 Hectares and Survey No: 01 measuring an area of 85 Hectares both in Nilambur area shall be returned back to Revenue Department for the development of this area.
3. Requirement of land for Panchayat Market and Community Hall at Nilambur area.
4. Provisions of water tap connection at Nilambur Jetty area.
5. Providing new floating Jetty for tourist boats at Nilambur Jetty area. 8. Providing a new floating Jetty for fishermen at Khari Basti.
6. Development of School playground at GSSS, Oralkatcha.
7. Repair & Maintenance of teacher’s quarters and Schools.
8. Development of Balu Dera beach at Nayagarh for tourists.
9. Providing new land for construction of Power house, Office and labor barracks for the Electricity Department.
10. Providing 01 no. Veterinary doctor along with supporting staff by upgrading the Veterinary dispensary at Nilambur & providing a new Veterinary dispensary at Wrafters Creek Village.
11. Providing a new X-ray machine, generator and staff at PHC Baratang.
12. Renovation of toilet, passenger waiting hall, providing water cooler, dustbins, repairing of Jetty and jetty lights by Port Management Board.
