Port Blair, Jan 07: The 24th Road Safety Week – 2013, being observed by Traffic Police from 1st January concluded today on 07th January 2013, in Port Blair with a motorcycle rally from National Memorial Cellular Jail to Netaji Stadium via Bengali Club, Goalghar, Junglighat, Dairy Farm, School Line, Bhatu Basti, Calicut Junction, Austinabad, Carbyn’s Junction, Chakkargaon, N^yagaon, RGT Road, R.K. Mission and Girls School Crossing. The Inspector General of Police (L&O), Shri. Satish Golchha, IPS, was the Chief Guest on the concluding ceremony. Flagging off the rally, Shri Satish Golchha told that a message will spread with the motor cycle rally and people will wear protective headgear conforming to the standards of Bureau of Indian Standards while riding two wheelers for their own safety, He has also congratulated the Traffic Police for the successful completion, of the week, which has highlighted the importance of Road Safety among the masses,
The Motorcycle Rally was taken out by Traffic Police and general public. Sixty riders participated in the rally wearing protective headgear and fluorescent Jackets to create awareness on safe riding and mandatory use of protective headgear.
Shri Satish Golchha also thanked all school students, general public, officials of Education Department, trainees .Of PTS Police Line, IRBn and media for extending their support in organizing the Road Safety Week.
During this 24th Road Safety Week, several programmes like, Educational Class for Govt. /Pvt. drivers, Free Eye test camp for drivers, Road Safety Walk, Police Band Display at Children Traffic Park and Painting competition for school children were organized. Lectures on Road Safety were delivered at various schools in Port Blair by the officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police to educate children about the Road Safety. The Traffic Police has also distributed thousands of educational pamphlets to students of Port Blair and nearby areas to create awareness on traffic rules and road safety. Simultaneously, various programmes in connection with the observance of Road Safety Week – 2013, were also organized by the local police throughout A & N Islands for creating awareness among general public in their respective jurisdictions.
