Port Blair, June 25: The installation of Spring Post Barriers by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on the both sides of NH4 has led to a severe traffic jam along the NH4 stretch from Apollo Hospital Junction to Garacharma District Hospital Junction. This development comes as a result of the recent move by the NHIDCL to install these barriers along both sides of the NH4 in certain areas to prevent parking, disregarding the crucial fact that the area is densely populated with healthcare facilities and testing centers.
With the presence of numerous hospitals and testing centers in the vicinity, the area has become a hub for healthcare services, attracting a significant number of vehicles and crowds. Previously, people were able to park their vehicles on the vacant spaces on the sides of the road, which served as a convenient solution. However, the installation of the spring post barriers has now made it impossible to park vehicles in those areas.
Consequently, vehicles are now forced to park on the road itself, resulting in heavy congestion along the NH4 and causing inconvenience for the public.
Residents have expressed their concerns regarding this issue to the Andaman Sheekha Daily, highlighting the escalating traffic problem. Upon taking up the matter with the officials in the Traffic unit, assurances were given that the issue would be addressed with the NHIDCL. It was suggested that at least one side of the road should be designated for four-wheeler parking to solve this issue.
The NHIDCL and the Administration must understand that the people of this island require suitable parking spaces for their vehicles and if no parking area is provided by authorities, people will be forced to park their vehicles on the road.
