Port Blair, June 16: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Port Blair, in association with the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Port Blair and Maharashtra Mandal, organized a highly successful Blood Donation Camp on June 16, 2023, at the Auditorium, Maharashtra Mandal, Port Blair, to commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2023. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the youth, resulting in the donation of 23 units of blood.
World Blood Donor Day is a globally recognized event that aims to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and honor the selfless act of blood donors worldwide. The Blood Donation Camp organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Port Blair served as a significant contribution to this global cause, emphasizing the crucial need for blood donations.
The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Adhyaksh, Zila Parishad, South Andaman, while Mr. Bhumi Nathan, Up Adhyaksh, graced the event as the guest of honor. The esteemed presence of Mr. Navjot Singh, Secretary of the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Port Blair, Mr. Prahlad Singh, Gram Panchayat Pradhan of Laxmi Nagar, Campbell Bay, Mrs. Leela Bathi, Zila Parishad Member of Laxmi Nagar, and Mr. Gorakhnath Patil, President of Maharashtra Mandal, added significance to the event. These esteemed guests addressed the gathering, emphasizing the benefits of blood donation and its impact on saving lives.
Dr. Shahina. M, Deputy Director of (Blood Safety), was also present as a guest and highlighted the importance of regular blood donation. She highlighted that regular blood donation can decrease the risk of cardiac arrest by 30 percent, detoxify the blood, and lower bad cholesterol levels in the body. Mr. Sukh Ranjan Biswas, DD(OSD) NYKS, provided insights into the critical need for blood donation.
During the event, appreciation certificates were conferred upon the dedicated youth volunteers who supported NYK in motivating donors and actively participating in blood donation camps during the last financial year 2022-23 and this year. The youth volunteers who received the certificates were Dr. Sunita Patil of Maharashtra Mandal, Mr. Sambhu Murthy, Mr. G. Krishna Rao Andaman Helping hand, Miss Raat Rani Bai (NYV), Miss Anila S. Nair, and Miss Porkodi Muniswari , active Youth. Additionally, all the donors present at the event were presented with certificates by the special guests.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. Gopal Ch Biswas, APA of Nehru Yuva Kendra, who also coordinated the program. He expressed gratitude to all the guests and the gathered participants, acknowledging their contribution to the success of the Blood Donation Camp.
