Port Blair, June 15: Taking a major leap in improving inter Island connectivity the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has got approval from Ministry of Home Affairs for upgradation of the entire fleet of Helicopters with latest helicopters.
As per details the present fleet of Dauphin N3 Helicopters, which are based on 20 years old technology, will be replaced by latest Sikorsky Helicopters, which are from US based Lockheed Martin Company.
A senior officer of Civil Aviation told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the contract and lease agreement for four new helicopters to be deployed in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These aircraft will support Pawan Hans’ onshore and offshore helicopter operations in the region. Once the official order is received, the operations will commence accordingly.
Meanwhile, in an interview in AIR Port Blair the Secretary of Civil Aviation had recently informed that these new Air Conditioned Helicopters will have three major features in Safety, Swiftness and Flying Capability in difficult weather. He said that there will also be a minor increase in passenger capacity.
As per sources Pawan Hans has already leased a few Sikorsky Helicopters for ONGC and North East and soon Andaman and Nicobar Islands will also be getting such helicopters.
