Baratang Island, June 09: The residents of Baratang Island have been enduring a distressing period as the Airtel network has been experiencing severe fluctuations for the past month. The out-of-service network has caused immense inconvenience and frustration for the residents of the region.
The unpredictable network fluctuations have made it difficult for individuals to make urgent calls, especially in situations related to health emergencies. The recurring disruptions have become a source of frustration for the residents.
The poor connectivity has not only affected the locals but has also created communication barriers for tourists visiting the Island. Both residents and tourists find it challenging to establish contact with individuals outside Baratang Island or on the mainland.
Mr. Alagerswamy, the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang, has raised concerns about the delayed repair of the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) by Airtel, which has been ongoing for a month. Additionally, there have been reported issues with the BSNL Base Transceiver Station located at the Baratang jetty.
The call drop problem has become particularly acute in certain areas of the village, leading many villagers to lodge complaints with the service providers and bring attention to the matter through media and various forums. Unfortunately, these efforts have not yielded significant results, leaving customers frustrated and without proper services. Mr. Alagerswamy has requested the concerned authorities to restore normal services promptly, highlighting the prolonged suffering of customers.
When approached for a statement, a senior officer from Airtel acknowledged the issue and the challenges faced by people on Baratang Island. The officer explained that technical problems with the Base Transceiver Station, connected through a satellite link from Mumbai, have led to the network’s instability. Heavy traffic on the module has strained its capacity, resulting in service disruptions. The officer reassured that Airtel has already requested the necessary materials to address the situation and expects them to arrive within a week. Once the materials are received, the officer assured swift resolution of the problem.
The residents of Baratang Island eagerly await the resolution of this issue, as the uninterrupted network connectivity is vital for their daily communication needs. They hope that the concerned authorities will take prompt action to rectify the situation and alleviate their suffering.
