Port Blair, May 21: ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder on Friday requested to reduce the Airfare of the flights at Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor- A & N Islands, Mr. Halder has put forward the grievances and issues that affect the Islanders in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He said that the current Airfares for the flights from our Islands are considerably high, often placing a heavy financial burden on the Islanders who rely on Air travel to access services of medical facilities, educational services, and other important resources available on mainland. He said it also restricts the ability to meet the families and friends residing outside the Islands, limiting social and cultural distances.
He suggested that due to the unique circumstances and the geographical isolation of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, A special initiative offering a minimum Airfare can help to sort their distress of the Islanders.
He stated that this step would also enable Islanders to travel more frequently and conveniently, enhancing their overall quality of life and strengthening the connection between the Islands and the rest of the country.
He mentioned that “In implementing such an Airfare structure would not only benefit the Islanders but also have a positive impact on the tourism industry of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It would also attract more visitors to the Islands, fostering economic growth and creating employment opportunities for the local population.
He further requested to consider the proposal and initiate discussions with relevant stakeholders to explore the feasibility for implementing the minimum Airfare scheme at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
