Port Blair, Apr 17: Under the guidance of Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (DM), A&N Administration, a one day Disaster Sensitization and Awareness Programme organized on 15.04.2023 & 16.04.2023 at Forest Training School, Wimberlygunj and STS Bus Terminal, Port Blair respectively by the Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration in coordination with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to enhance the capacity and creating disaster awareness to the Forest Personnel, staffs & Trainees of the School and staff & Passengers of STS Bus Terminal, Port Blair.
While welcoming the gathering, Mr. C.A. Mazeed, ACF, Director (Forest Training School) stressed on participation of the Forest personnel and staff of the Forest Training School in the disaster preparedness to manage disasters as first responder.
During the technical session of the programmes, Mr. Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Logistics) (DM), A&N Administration explained the Vulnerability profile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and importance of disaster preparedness to tackle disaster like situation in future at grass root level.
Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas, Sr. Consultant, DDM elaborated on Emergency Communication and Early Warning System of ANI and also emphasized about awareness, preparedness and mitigation efforts with regard to Disaster Management to manage events during a disaster.
Later Mr. Vishnu Singh, Sub-Inspector, NDRF and team were presented with different techniques and procedures of search & rescue operation during disasters including MFR (Medical First Response), lifting & carrying methods, hands on training etc.
