Port Blair, Apr 16: Fit India Movement was launched by the Prime Minister with an aim to take the nation on a path of fitness and wellness, encouraging people to include physical activities in their day to day lives. As part of the movement, A&N Fire Service organized a 5 km Walkathon today for personnel of all units of the Police Department, defence personnel, college students, general public etc. to make them aware about fire and life safety. Around 160 people participated.
The chief guest, Mr. Ajay Krishan Sharma, IPS, Dy. Inspector General of Police (HQ) welcomed the participants and briefed them about the importance of fitness and healthy lifestyle and the fact that fitness & safety go hand in hand. He urged the participants to be aware of fire safety measures as this affects and relates to every one of us. Before flagging off the Walkathon, Mrs. Niharika Bhat, IPS, SP (Fire) explained the reason for observing Fire Service Week and organizing the Walkathon. A demonstration of Fire Extinguishers, various Class of Fire was also conducted along with a question and answer session.
