Port Blair, Apr 03: The Final match of Maiden DGP Cup 2023 was played on 02/04/2023 between the Andaman Nicobar Police team and Jadwet Cricketing club in front of a full house at Netaji Stadium. 41 teams from different parts of the Islands participated in the tournament which started on 15/02/2023. The Director General of Police, A&N Islands Mr. Neeraj Thakur, IPS inaugurated the match with the toss and Jadwet cricket club won the toss and elected to bat first.
The police team restricted the opponents to 107/10 in 20 over’s and the Police team chased down the target in 16.5 overs with the loss of seven wickets. Mr. Saorabh Pandey of Police team was adjudged as man of the match with trophy and cash amount of Rs.5000/- for his innings of 34(26) and picking up two crucial wickets by giving just 26 runs in 4 overs.
Mr. Sundaram of Jadwet cricketing club was awarded as best bowler of the tournament with a trophy and cash amount of Rs.10000/- for picking 20 wickets. Mr. PK Jabbar of Police team was selected as best batsman of the tournament with a trophy and cash amount of Rs.10000/- for his 276 runs and Mr. Afroz of Jadwet Cricketing club was awarded with Man of the series with a trophy and cash amount of Rs.5000 as he scored 265 runs and took 10 wickets in the tournament. The chief Guest of the occasion Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands and Mr. Neeraj Thakur ,IPS, Director General of Police handed over the DGP CUP 2023 along with One Lakh cash money to Andaman Nicobar Police Team and Runner up trophy of Rs.50000/- to Jadwet Cricketing club . The Andaman Nicobar Police team decided to donate 50 percent of the winning amount to the Orphanage.
