
Port Blair, Mar 31: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder has demanded to construct Man-made Ponds under in several villages of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, A & N Islands, Mr. Halder said that “In view of the problem of water Scarcity in recent days, it becomes impossible for the Islanders to contaminate with their day-to-day works and usages as the source of water supplies are decreasing during this summer season”.
He has pointed towards “the Farmers of A& N Islands who are very much worried about their agricultural lands which were becoming dry due to a massive shortage of man- made Ponds which makes use for the restoration of rainy waters. Whereas, he clarified that “the existing pond in our Islands doesn’t have a maximum capacity to hold surplus water which further results in the formation of drought in the summery days”.
He added that “the Revenue Land of Andaman & Nicobar Islands can easily be utilized in constructing man-made Ponds to store adequate number of water resources and helps to procure maximum support in proper habitation for Human Beings as well as the Animals”. He stated that “the Construction of enormous ponds helps to utilize the Agricultural lands with the process of Irrigation to superintend the amount of water drizzling towards the root shrubs at regular interregnum. This technique requires massive water sources to artificially bestow the water sustainability and to safeguard the fast, nutritious growth of the crops. He further requested to take immediate steps and actions in Constructing of Huge Ponds in all over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
