Port Blair, March 26: A fire broke out at a vacant paddy land in Hut Bay area of Little Andaman Island yesterday, March 25th, in the afternoon.
As soon as the villagers and Mr. Vasudevan Nair, a Zilla Parishad member, noticed the fire, they immediately informed the Fire Control Room. The Fire Control Room acted promptly, and a fire tender from Hut Bay Fire Unit was dispatched to the location.
The electricity pole with a cable line passing through the area was immediately shut down by the staff of the electricity department to prevent any further damage.
Initially, the villagers of the nearby area tried to control the fire. However, they were unable to douse the flames by that time as the fire had already spread to nearby grasses. Upon receiving the information, the firefighting team immediately rushed to the spot and managed to control the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
