Baratang Correspondent
Port Blair, Dec 27: Andaman Sheekha on December 18,2012 had published a news in which it was reported that “Absence of Ambulance causes Patient’s Death at Baratang”. As per reports, a 22 years old lady, Seema Barla from remote Khattakhari village of Baratang area, had died because of suspected Andaman Fever. Seema Barla was not shifted to G B Pant as there was no Ambulance at PHC Baratang.
Following the report, the Vice Chairman of District Health Society, N & M Andaman has now requested the Director of Health Services to appoint a Health attendant , on DRM basis from the village itself, who will provide a helping hand to the ANM of Sub-Centre and act as a link between the community and the health system. This was requested because in remote villages, attending Andaman Fever or other serious patients, sometimes becomes impossible for health workers.
Meanwhile the Pradhan of Sundergarh Panchayat has told Andaman Sheekha that after the report the Health Department is taking serious steps to ensure that an ambulance is always stationed at PHC Baratang.
