Port Blair, Mar 24: The District Administration through District Health Society, South Andaman conducted a week long awareness activities for observance of World TB Day concluded by bike rally with the theme of “Yes! We Can End TB”. The rally started from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (SA) and culminated at Flag Point. The Deputy Commissioner (SA), Mrs. Veditha Reddy, IAS flagged off the rally in presence of the Addl. District Magistrate, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Tehsildar, Ferrargunj, Mr. Vinayak Chamadia, IAS (P), District TB Officer, Dr. P. Lal and other officials of District Programme Management Unit.
Earlier, flash-mob / street play was performed by the children and youths of the Nehru Yuva Kendra at the starting point of the rally, thereafter Addl. District Magistrate (SA) and Tehsildar, Ferrargunj along with around 50 bikers participated in the rally by displaying TB awareness play-cards which culminated at Flag Point, wherein the Deputy Commissioner (SA) felicitated the winners & participants with memento & certificate of TB Harega Desh Jeetega Double Wicket Cricket Tournament held on 22.03.2023 & 23.03.2023 at Bambooflat and also felicitated to the Nehru Yuva Kendra & Good Samaritan Club for their active participation in the awareness activities of Tuberculosis.
The DC (SA) appreciated all participants who have been actively involved with the TB awareness campaign of the District Administration and informed that all participants involved in the activities such as Street Play, Cricket Tournament, Bike Rally and other awareness activities shall be provided an online appreciation certificate in the web portal of the District Administration.
It was also requested of the general public to adopt a healthy lifestyle to avoid such killer diseases of tuberculosis, create awareness within their community and help the TB patients in terms of healthy diet by registering themselves under “Community Support to TB patients – Nikshay Mitra”. Further, added that if anyone having symptoms like “persistent cough, chest pain, fatigue, fever, blood in cough, weight loss and night sweats” they may get themselves tested at nearest health centers and also requested to contact District TB unit, GB Pant hospital or District Health Society, DC Office (SA) for any assistance for TB screening or testing to achieve the goal of TB Eradication by 2025.
