Port Blair, Dec 27: The XXIVth “Road Safety Week” will be observed from 1st to 7th January 2013. The purpose of Road Safety week is to make people understand the importance of Road safety. The awareness campaign underlines the significance of road safety measures. The traffic police requests the general public to participate enthusiastically in the celebration.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police will undertake a number of road safety activities as well as proactive enforcement drives. During the Road safety week the following progammes shall be organized:-
An educational class for the Government and private drivers will be held at Fire Brigade Head Quarter on the 1st Jan 2013 at 1030 hrs. A large number of drivers are expected to participate in the awareness classes. The members from the Auto Union/Taxi union/Bus drivers union i.e. drivers/conductors and Pvt truck union/State transport service department, Police, IRBn and the general public are requested to come forward to attend the classes. On the same day there will be a Police Band display at the Children’s Traffic Park from 1630 to 1830 hrs to entertain the children while they learning the traffic rules and signals at the children traffic park.
These educational classes will be continued on 2nd January 2013 from 1030 hrs at Fire Brigade Headquarter for Government and private drivers followed by an Eye-Test Camp. A Medical team from G.B Pant Hospital will conduct free eye-testing for all the drivers who attend the camp. Simultaneously on the same day there will be lectures by Police officers on Road Safety from 1000 to 1100 hrs at the JNRM College and Government Senior Secondary School Haddo, Hindi medium, and from 1100 to 1200 hrs at Nirmala Senior Secondary School respectively.
As part of the celebration there will be lectures on Road Safety on 3rd Jan 2013 from 1000 to 1100 hrs at the Tagore B.Ed. College, Carmel Senior Secondary School, Government Senior Secondary School Telegu Medium Haddo and Government Senior Secondary School, Bambooflat respectively.
A Road Safety Walk will be flagged off from Netaji Stadium on 4th Jan 2013 at 0600 hrs. To create awareness on Roads safety among public and students, approximately 2,000 schoolchildren and members of the public are expected to participate. The route will be from Netaji stadium and back via clock tower, Bengali club, Lighthouse, Gandhi Statue and clock tower. On the same day, there will be lectures on Road Safety from 1000 to 1100 hrs at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Government Senior Secondary School Bhatu Basti and Government Senior Secondary School Line respectively.
On 05th January 2013, a rally of school students will be organized from Bambooflat jetty to Government Senior Secondary School, Bambooflat at 0600 hrs. On the same day there will be lectures on Road Safety from 1000 to 1100 hrs at Government Senior Secondary School, Mohanpura and from 1100 hrs to 1200 hrs at Kamraj English Medium School. On the same day Spot painting competition will be organized at Government Model Senior Secondary School Auditorium from 0900 hrs to 1130 hrs. There will be an open painting competition among schools divided into three categories i.e. I Std to V Std , VI std to VIII Std and IX Std to XII std. A free Pollution Check for Vehicles will also be conducted at the Fire Brigade (HQ) from 0900 hrs to 1100 hrs on the same day.
As part of the celebration there will be Police Band display at the Children’s Traffic Park from 1630 to 1830 hrs on 06th Jan 2013.
A Two-Wheeler rally with ISI helmets will be held on 7th Jan 2013 which will be organized by the Traffic Branch from the National Memorial upto Bathubasti to create awareness among the general public about the importance of wearing helmets and careful driving. On the same day, training will be imparted to the children visiting the Children’s Traffic Park.
