Port Blair, Mar 23: The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker has notably highlighted the dilapidated condition of Andaman Bhawan at Visakhapatnam and issues being faced by Islanders there who visit Andhra Pradesh for several reasons like medical treatment, higher education, participating in sports events etc.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Mr. Bhasker pointed out that the 50 bedded dormitory room and toilets at Andaman Bhawan, Visakhapatnam is in a very unhygienic state. Consequently everywhere, a stinking smell, uncleanness and negligence prevail.
He added that, there is a huge demand for additional rooms at Andaman Bhawan, Visakhapatnam as currently there are only 50 bedded dormitory room and 2 double bedded living rooms available and often residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have to stay in private hotels, which is too expensive.
“Sufficient drinking water facility is not available in the Andaman Bhawan and taps of toilets are not functional for a very long time which has added to the miseries of Islanders” said Mr. Bhasker.
He exhorted that, due to non-availability of AC facility in Andaman Bhawan, Visakapatnam, it is inconvenient for the Islanders to stay in such closed rooms during the scorching summer season.
Mr. Bhasker also requested for providing sufficient cupboards and almirahs in the dormitories to keep belongings of guests safely. He also suggested for repairing, painting and daily cleaning of the building.
Hence, he requested the Lt. Governor to consider these issues and direct the concerned officials of APWD/CPWD to take an affirmative action soon in the interest of Islander’s.
