Port Blair, Mar 20: A fire broke out at the Veer Savarkar International Airport near the arrival gate in Port Blair this morning at around 10:30 AM. The incident occurred inside the Air Port Building, which is under the Airport Authority of India.
According to sources, workers and nearby people noticed thick smoke emanating from an empty room of the Airport. The Fire control room was immediately informed, and the fire tenders reached the spot swiftly. The fire department managed to control the fire within 30 minutes.
It was reported that the empty room was previously used as a cafeteria. Fortunately, due to timely intervention by the firefighters, the fire was controlled on time and did not spread to nearby rooms. No property damage was reported as per the sources. However, further investigations are on to determine the cause of the fire, which is believed to be a short circuit.
