Port Blair, Mar 20: A team headed by Smti. S Selvi, Chairperson of the Port Blair Municipal Council, along with Secretary, PBMC Smti. R Smitha (IAS) and other elected representatives and officials, recently visited the Dhanikari Dam to review the water level and find solutions for the current water crisis in South Andaman.
The delay in monsoon has led to a severe shortage of water within the Municipal Limits, prompting the team to undertake an inspection of the dam and its surrounding areas. The officials from the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) provided the team with a detailed briefing on the current situation.
During the inspection, the team also visited the nearby water catchment area and a perennial source of water at Austinabad. The APWD has constructed a well and pump house at the location, which could potentially provide much-needed relief to the water crisis.
Following the visit, the Chairperson directed the officials to take immediate action and put to use the available water assets to supply water to the residents of the area. The visit and subsequent actions demonstrate the commitment of the Port Blair Municipal Council to address the water crisis and ensure the well-being of the local community.
