Port Blair, Dec 26: The Agriculture department organized various programmes for the farmer, besides the exhibition put up at the venue during the five day long Bharat Nirman Public information Campaign that concluded on last Sunday.
The Agriculture department’s stall designed in an innovative manner with different exhibits showing the details of Flagship programmes of the Government including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana(RKVS) and financial assistance programmes, besides farm machineries and farmer friendly devices such as Rotary tiller, wheel barrow, rotovator, coconut palm climbing devices, tree pruner & other Plant Protection equipments.. A demonstration on coconut vending machine attracted every one. A large number of publicity materials in the form of Leaflets and brochures on package of practices of different crops, farm machineries maintenance, agriculture development programmes etc. were distributed among the visitors.
In the coconut palm climbing competition at Netaji Nagar held on 21st, Participants from Harminder Bay, Netaji Nagar, R.K.Pur, V.K.Pur partcicipated.. The Pradhan Netaji Nagar Gram Panchayat, Smt Kunjumol was the chief guest on the occasion. During the contest, a number of local people gathered and cheered the palm climbers. The agriculture department awarded the winners with merit certificates and Prizes at the valedictory function of the campaign.
A one day seminar on “Coconut Based Farming system”. was organized on 22nd of this month at R K Pur village. Shri Alexander, DFO, Little Andaman, Pradhan R.K.Pur, Ashmanju Halder and 2nd captain Harminder Bay spoke on the occasion. Shri. Dilip Kumrar, Assistant Director (Agri.) elaborated on the coconut based farming system for increasing the farm productivity.
During Technical Session, Assistant Director (Agri.) and technical experts of Department of Agriculture and Resource Person from other departments including financial institutions spoke on various topics and thereby guiding the farmers on modern farm practices to increase their productivity.
A large number of progressive farmers from Harminder Bay, R.K. Pur, V.K.Pur, Netaji Nagar, Rabindra Nagar and other areas participated in the seminar.
The farmers opined that the seminar was of immense useful and encouragement for them to launch high value agriculture practices in their areas. (PIB)
