Diglipur, Mar 10: The Andaman and Nicobar administration’s flagship program, AB PMJAY, has proved to be a boon for terminally ill patients with the conversion of Sub Centres into Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and the posting of Community Health Officers (CHOs) at all remote and inaccessible areas.
Ms. Sneha Madhu, CHO at the HWC in Laxmipur under PHC Radha Nagar, is providing home-based care for terminally ill oral cancer patients. The ANIIMS in Port Blair, an accredited training center, has provided training to qualified nursing officers to become CHOs, with the certificate issued by Regional IGNOU, PB.
The CHOs are equipped to provide general nursing care, parenteral nutritional care, and pain management for terminally ill cancer patients. This initiative, taken by the Director of Health Services and MD UTHM, has received widespread appreciation from the general public.
