Baratang, Mar 09: An old and dry tree collapsed on five temporary shed shops located at Nilambur Jetty, Baratang on Wednesday afternoon around 1:00 PM. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of the Gumti Pan shop and left one lady with a minor head injury. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported.
As per local residents, due to the windy weather conditions, several tree branches fell on the shops’ roof. Upon noticing this, the people and shop workers immediately evacuated the premises. However, shortly after, the entire tree collapsed on five temporary shops, causing significant damage.
The tree is believed to have been very old and dry, leading to its loss of grip on the soft soil. Following the incident, the matter was reported to the Fire Station Baratang, and the police and fire teams promptly arrived at the scene. They cleared the debris from the area and ensured no further danger to the public.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of old trees in the area and the need for regular inspections to prevent such occurrences.
