Port Blair, Mar 07: The Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, yesterday reviewed the functioning of PBMC with special focus on the water supply situation in the city, in view of the summer season. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed the Secretary, PBMC to keep strict vigil on the distribution of water in the Municipal area. He directed that the public should be advised to use drinking water conscientiously and no wastage of drinking water should be allowed.
The Chief Secretary also instructed that the public should be advised not to waste water by allowing tanks to overflow or by using water for gardening, vehicle washing, etc. He also directed PBMC to take stringent action against violators wasting water.
All consumers have been asked to fix float valves to their connection within a week. In case of non-compliance, hefty fines will be imposed and connections will be disconnected.
