Port Blair, Feb 28: The stray dog population in Port Blair has become a serious problemfor residents and visitors alike. The menace has reached an alarminglevel as stray dogs can be seen wandering the streets and creatinghavoc. The situation is not only a public safety concern but also apublic health issue.
Clearly steps taken by Port Blair Municipal Council tocontrol the stray dog population are not satisfactory, which has resulted in numerous dogbite incidents. People driving bikes at night are the major victims of such Dog attacks. The problem is not new, and despite numerous complaints, the MunicipalCouncil has failed to take any effective steps to control the stray dogpopulation. The situation has become so dire that the dogs can be seenroaming the streets in packs, posing a significant risk topedestrians, children, and the elderly.
It is not just the lack of sterilization programs or veterinary care, but also the lack of will to solve the issue by the authorities. The MunicipalCouncil has not yet put in place any comprehensive plan to addressthis problem in public. Instead, it seems to be content with merely paying lipservice to the issue.
The situation is unacceptable, and people of Port Blair city demand the Port Blair Municipal Council must take immediate action to control the stray dog population. It is high time that PBMC put in place a comprehensive plan to control the population of Dogs in the city and make the plan public.
People of the city now demand immediate intervention of Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration in this regard as the stray dog menace in Port Blair is a serious problemthat needs urgent attention. The Municipal Council cannot continue toignore this problem and must take immediate steps to address it. Thesafety and health of the residents and visitors of the city depend onit.
Dear sir/madam,
There are a no. of topics that require much more attention than stray dogs. Also there was a recent wave of canine distemper that has decreased the population of stray dogs by 70℅. The intolerance of public regarding animals is increasing and people are for forgetting cooperation with nature. Yes there are a few cases where dogs run behind vehicles, but there are much more cases where a dog or a small puppy is run over by a vehicle. People should learn how to behave with dogs even if they bark at you, instead the only solution humans could ever find is violence and eradication.
This is my humble request to please take these kinds of topics very diligently and look at both sides of the coin. A single dog stray/domestic if loved will stay with you till it dies.
I arrive late from my work dogs run behind my vehicle barking at me. I stop and call from them and then I receive no. of wagging tails and happy faces.
The problem is not dogs or cats. It’s us humans who can’t tolerate even other humans, hence, dogs are out of the question.
Thanking you,
Your fellow Port Blairian
Please go to any government hospital’s vaccination room for dog bite and you WILL change your opinion. Being a government hospital staff, I never crossed a day without seeing a dog bite case in the hospital. Most of the victims where bikers, elderly and children with terrible wounds. The issue here to discuss is not ” who’s fault it is” but to how to solve it. And of course it is important to discuss.
