Port Blair, Feb 22: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organized a Two days Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for Teachers and Counselors from 21st & 22nd February 2023. The valedictory function for the seminar was held on 22nd February 2023 in seminar room, JNRM and Mr. Rajinder Singh, Deputy Commandant / CASO, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), VSI Airport, Port Blair graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Rajinder Singh said that the teachers are playing a vital role in shaping the character of the student community. Counseling to the vulnerable group is very essential for stopping the drug abuse that leads to addiction. Apart from the parents at home at school level, the teaching community should be vigilant and caring towards students so that they can share their problems with the teachers, he said. Further he has explained the role of CISF in stopping the drug menace in Andaman and urged to work through synergy mode for making the society as free from drug abuse.
Dr. H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM congratulated the participating teachers and asked them to be torch bearers to eradicate the drug menace among the students. Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme said that the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has prepared a National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) for the period 2018-2025 which aims at reduction of adverse consequences of drug abuse through a multi-pronged strategy involving education, de-addiction and rehabilitation of affected individuals and their families. Earlier Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science welcomed the gathering and Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks. Mrs. Poonam Singh, Resource Person moderated the programme and Ms. P.Bhuvaneshwari, Resource Person served as Rapporteur. Altogether 35 teachers from 18 different schools took part in the programme.
