Port Blair, Feb 19: On Friday, February 17, 2023, a mini cargo van loaded with coconuts plunged into the sea from Hut Bay Jetty. The van was sent to the jetty for loading cargo onto the cargo ship TCI Prabhu, it is reported.
According to reports, the driver of the cargo van parked the vehicle in the queue and went for dinner. Meanwhile, one of the labourers tried to ride the van. For some unknown reason, the labourer lost control of the cargo van and drove it beyond the jetty’s edge, causing the accident.
However, the labourer managed to jump off the van in time and save himself. The cargo van sank immediately into the sea. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Upon receiving the information, the Marine Police Force and staff of PS Hut Bay reached the spot at around 11:30 PM on Friday. The next day, Saturday morning, the van was salvaged by the police team.
A relevant case was registered against the labourer who tried to ride the cargo van. However, he was later released on bail.
