Port Blair, Feb 16: Two days HRD Programme on impact of pesticide residues on vegetable crops was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair under the Union Ministry of Agri. & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India at community hall, Mithakhari gram panchayat, South Andaman in which 60 farmers, 03 State Agriculture Officials and 07 gram panchayat staff participated.
The focus of the programme was on the IPM Technology, where Mrs. BeenaNeogi, AA,State Agriculture department in her welcome address briefed on the Importance of IPM in agriculture crops and Organic Farming.
Mr. Ramesh, H.P, PPO (E),CIPMC, Port Blair in his address emphasized upon the ill effect of pesticides on humans as well as the residual effect of pesticides on vegetables
Dr. Janardan Saikia, APPO (E), PQS, Port Blair spoke on IPM technology on Vegetable crops, also discussed the major insect pest’s management in vegetable crops through IPM practices.
Dr Swarnavo Chakraborty, APPO(PP), CIPMC, Port Blair spoke on nursery management and seed treatment of vegetable crops with biocontrol agents like Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas fluorescens.
Dr Shiva Kumar H.DAPPO (WS) CIPMC, Port Blair spoke on the importance of natural enemies against insect pests of vegetable crops.
Mr.Mohd. Safiq, Panchayat Pradhan Mithakhari was the guest of honor and in his address he appreciated the efforts of CIPMC and State Agril. Department. In his welcome address he talked on the importance of organic farming with all the participants. He appealed to all the farmers to adopt IPM Practices which are suitable for our Ecology and Environment.
During the technical session CIPMC staff discussed agro-ecosystem analysis in vegetable crops and also mentioned inter-crops, trap crops and border crops.
Mrs. BeenaNeogi,AA,State Agriculture department proposed vote of thanks during valedictory session.
