Port Blair, Feb 14: Under the guidance of Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration, the Department of Disaster Management regularly conducts various disaster preparedness programmes in different departments and institutions of this UT. In continuation of above, organized sensitization programme for the Students of 02nd Year (MBBS) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) on Disaster Management & Preparedness on 14.02.2023 at Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration
Mr. T.K.S. Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops.), DDM interacted with the students and briefed about the various types of disasters and vulnerability profile of this UT. Islands which are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities, though people cannot prevent this natural phenomenon but definitely with a holistic and a meticulous approach & plan, people could mitigate the impact. Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas, Sr. Consultant, DDM elaborated various preparedness mechanisms of community as well as institutions to respond by themselves during emergencies or crisis and functions of Disaster Management and State Emergency Operation Centre of this UT.
Mr. Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.), DDM explained the different aspects of disaster management viz. response, preparedness and mitigation strategies and also highlighted the basic Do’s and Don’ts used in any eventuality and the role and responsibility of paramedics during the time of disaster.
