Port Blair, Dec 21 : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has claimed that radiations coming out from mobile towers in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are within the limit, prescribed by Government of India.
Answering to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. K P Mohan (ITS) AGM of BSNL’s A & N Circle today said that BSNL’s A & N Circle is making all efforts to make sure that the radiation is within the limit.
The reply came after serious concerns were expressed by residents of these remote Islands against growing number of towers in thickly populated areas and near schools.
“A recent joint inspection done by the TERM (Telecom Enforcement Resource Monitory) in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has said that radiations from BSNL Towers are within the prescribed limit in these Islands,” he added.
However, he said that BSNL’s A & N Circle is aware of the growing concerns of people on public health from growing number of towers in Andamans.
“If there is a joint inspection regarding radiations from Mobile Towers then the report must be made public. Why general public have been kept in dark till now about the data and the reports,” said a senior staff of Anadaman’s Health Department, who does not want his name to be quoted.
Hope the BSNL will soon put all documents regarding radiation in Andaman, in public domain so that public could know the actual position.
