Port Blair, Feb 12: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalats in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR center-PRAYAS”, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today by adopting all COVID SOPs issued by the MHA from time to time.
The Judicial Officers of this judgeship were present to mark the commencement of the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair, Mayabunder and Diglipur.
Out of the total 390 pre-litigation cases including 100 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 520 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat, out of which, 63 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, 1 MACT Case and 470 Criminal cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 63 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 1,82,75,774.78/- have been settled at Rs.1,07,23,500/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs.75,52,274.78/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs.5,33,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 01 MACT case, the claim was settled at Rs. 1,80,000/-. Disposing of 470 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 26,800/- was realized as fine.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 8 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were referred out of which 6 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 12,36,000/-. 42 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 28 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 52,350/- was realized. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 02 pre-litigation cases were referred out of which 1 pre-litigation case was disposed of and settled at Rs. 58,000 and Rs. 5000 was realized on the spot. 33 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 16 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 59,000/- was realized
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted five benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Mr.Subhayu Banerjee, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Biswajit Mondal, Advocate, and Mrs. Bulbul Mistry, Ex-Pradhan (Social Worker), Gram Panchayat, Sita Nagar, Diglipur. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Mr. Md. Rafique Alam, Chief Judicial Magistrate, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mrs. Banani Biswas, Advocate and Mrs. Mary ColosticaKujur, Samiti Member, Rampur Gram Panchayat, Rampur.
