Port Blair, Feb 12: The road in Shoalbay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which was recently constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and inaugurated in April 2022, has already started facing major damages within a few months. The road connects Shoalbay-15 to Shoalbay-19, a popular tourist destination and home to many Bengali settlers for the past 70 years.
According to the President of the Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress, Paritosh Kr Haldar, the road has been damaged in many places and public complaints have been rising. The contractor and the APWD have started repair works, but it is feared that the road will not last long and face even more damages in the monsoon season.
Mr. Haldar has also raised questions over the quality of the road work.
He has requested the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration to look into the matter and take necessary actions to ensure the longevity of the road. The residents of Shoalbay and the tourists who visit the area deserve a well-constructed and safe road for their daily commute and travels.
