Port Blair, Jan 29: The President of the Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress, Mr. Paritosh Kr. Haldar, has written to the Lt Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral D K Joshi, to bring attention to the dire state of the rural roads on the islands. Mr. Haldar states that more than 80% of the pacca roads within villages are in dilapidated conditions, with many of them not even being motorable. He notes that maintenance works, such as renovation and re-carpeting, have not been done for several years. He further states that the public, particularly school-going children and patients, have been facing much hardship due to the poor state of the roads. Mr. Haldar has requested the Lt Governor to make an enquiry into the matter and take necessary action to address the issue.
