Port Blair, Dec 18: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee today organised a public meeting at Tiranga Park, which was attended by Congress leaders, supporters and general public.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his address told the gatherings that he is nothing but a common man but has intention to serve the people of these Islands.
He said that he is dead against the buffer zone and hence several times has requested to reduce the area and hope to get fruitful result from the Government.
He also stated that from day one, after tsunami, he has written many letters to different Ministries, met with the then Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram who came here after the meeting of IDA when the decision was taken that compensation to the ill-fated farmers of AN islands will be in lieu of Submerged lands, and gave memorandum for enhancement of Compensation amount as it is too low and to allow the farmers to retain their lands.
He also requested the same to Mr. Janardan Dwivedi, MP when he was at Port Blair and also written to Dr Shakeel Ahmed, General Secrtary, AICC.
Recently he has requested to the Prime Minister of India to allow compensation in place of Rs. 9.30 lakhs per ha to 18 lakhs per hactare and allow them to retain their submerged lands which they may use for their livelihood.
He has also requested the Administrator to fill up all vacant posts in Administration so that unemployed youths get employment. He has also informed to the gatherings that the following issues were his demands which he has achieved for his people of these islands and thanked the Administration and Lt. Governor for the approvals.
Demands like opening of 2nd shift of JNRM college; Opening of MBBS college; Enhancement of seats in MA, M.Sc, M.Com from 15 to 25 seats in each subjects and introduction of new courses; Enhancement of seats at Post graduation level: English, Hindi, Pol Science, computer Science, Commerce from 15 to 25 seats. Geography from 10 to 25 seats, Plant Science & Chemistry from 10 to 15 seats; New course “Bachelor of Physical Education”; Free pass in STS Buses for the students; Restoration of Science Stream in SSS RK Pur, L/Andaman and Port Mout Sr sec schools; Continuation of engagement of teachers employed under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan; Opening of a new wing of hostel for girls of JNRM; Non enhancement of cut off marks in AIEEE for allotment of non- NIT seats for students who have passed class XII exam for the academic session 2012-13; Introduction of boiled eggs as supplementary nutrition (started from July 12) 12. Sand extraction permit; Twenty four hours power supply to Ganesh Nagar, GandhiNagar, Jagannath dera and shanty nagar at D/pur; Guest house at Vizag and shed at Vizag port; Improved inter island and mainland connectivity etc were either approved or are under active consideration.
He said that he got waived the orders of fishing beyond Ross islands for the welfare of fishermen; Got the fares of MV Bambooka lowered which were charging Rs. 150/- for journey from Port Blair to Havelock and vice versa; arranged Compensation to fire accident ( 21 07 12 )victims of Haddo; Got released 41 posts of Panchayat Secretaries; Got MV Campbell Bay pressed into service; God done embarkation of 35 stranded bus at mainland for Port Blair; arranged subsidy to the stretcher patients referred by DHS in specialized hospitals at mainland. Etc etc.
All the senior leaders of the Party from Port Blair and inter islands were present in the meeting. Shawls were presented by Auto Union, PBMC Chairperson, PB Murugan and many others. The meeting was conducted by a senior leader Mrs Zubaida Begum.
