Port Blair, Dec 30: The Flag hoisting function was organized at Gram Panchayat Kanyauram today to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of First Flag Hoisting by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in A & N Islands on 30th December 1943 for the first time on Indian Soil, in which a large number of local people enthusiastically participated.
Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was the chief guest on the occasion and Mr. MK Hussain, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Stewart Gunj was graced the function as guest of honor.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Vishal Jolly talked about the importance of freedom struggle and said that the name of A & N Islands should be written in golden words in the saga of the nation’s freedom struggle. Further he reminded that forefathers suffered the oppression of both British and Japanese but did not bow down in front of them.
Mr. Abdul Basheer, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram said that a similar event was held last year and this year also they have conducted the event to make people remember the sacrifices of the forefathers.
Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Ex-Adhyaksh ZP, South Andaman, Mr. Shiv Chandar More, Pradhan Banbooflat, Mr. Ram Babu, Pradhan, WimberlygunjMr. V.K. Abdul Aziz, Zilla Parishad Member, Brindaban Constituency and Mr. J.L. Tak, Prominent Social Worker were other special invitees on the occasion.
