Port Blair, Dec 16: A cycle rally, as a precursor to 37th Coast Guard Day Celebrations – 2013, was organized by the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (A&N) for CG fraternity from Chidiya Tapu to Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex, Haddo on Saturday. The aim of the event was to re-emphasis on the importance of physical fitness and team spirit of CG personnel, besides generating awareness about Coast Guard role among civil population.
The rally was flagged off by DIG KBL Bhatnagar, Chief of Staff, CGRHQ (A&N) from Chidiya Tapu in the morning. A total of 25 Coast Guard personnel and Defence civilians, in blue attire, participated in the 30 kms long cycle rally. While covering the route, pamphlets highlighting Coast Guard Search & Rescue efforts and also Toll Free helpline number 1554 to the fisher folk were also distributed by the participants. The rally culminated at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex in a impressive ceremony. The participants were felicitated by the Chief Guest Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), in the presence of a large audience comprising of the Commanding Officers, Officers-in-Charge, men and families of the Coast Guard Region (A&N). All participants were presented a memento on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, IG VSR Murthy appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all the participants and lauded their efforts in reaching out to the local populace for generating awareness about the Coast Guard. He also appreciated Comdt Somasundaram, Commanding Officer of ICGS Port Blair and his team for the smooth and efficient conduct of the event. The event was covered by the Doordarshan, Port Blair.
