
Port Blair, Dec 09: Mrs. Sampa Banerjee, State President (Mahila Morcha) has submitted a letter to the Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Police, Port Blair today with a request for installation of CCTV cameras in order to curb the sudden spurt in the anti-social activities Port Blair city.
The cases of drugs / gambling are on the increase while the eve-teasing is rampant in the city, Mrs. Banerjee mentioned in her letter. She also observed that the anti-social elements roam about on motorcycles and indulge in socially unacceptable behaviour and which has given rise to rash driving & hit and run cases as are common nowadays, the Mahila Morcha President stated in her letter.
She requested the DGP in her letter to make necessary arrangements to install the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Municipal Wards that are vulnerable to anti-social elements.
There are certain areas in the city like the sea shore, the place where there are no street lights, and some places which are unfrequented, all have become den for the gamblers and drug peddlers, she informed the top Police Official in her letter.
She claimed in her letter that the adequate safety and security measures for women and children are lacking as the areas do not have deployment of police, and as such, the CCTV surveillance system will help the police in controlling crime, Mrs. Sampa Banerjee suggested in her letter.
