Port Blair, Dec 13: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has written a letter to the Lt Governor, has stated that GB Pant hospital is the main hospitals in these islands where patients are being referred from inter islands also. Since it has limited beds since its inception, many patients either could not be admitted or don’t get suitable beds. Hence as a welfare measure, Sharma has demanded for up gradation of this hospital to a referral and super speciality hospital with at least 500 beds, full infrastructure viz modern equipments and super specialized doctors.
At the same time Sharma has demanded for up gradation of Garacharma Primary Health centre as a well equipped District hospital. Giving reason, Sharma wrote that this is a thickly populated area which needs a well equipped hospital and establishing of a Distt hospital in the area will be a great help to the residents of nearby areas also.
Above all, such hospital will also lower the burden on the GB Pant Hospital.
Advocating for such hospitals, Sharma has stated that our Government is always in favour of opening and upgrading hospitals for the welfare of the common men and up gradation of the above hospitals will not only be beneficial for the patients but also be helpful to solve unemployment problem prevailing in these islands as at least 250
trained but waiting nurses out of about 500 waiting nurses may get employment in both the upgraded medicals. Further to it, many aspirant waiting local Doctors, pharmacists, Ayah, Sweepers, Ward boys, Peons, Drivers etc may also be accommodated.
