Port Blair, Dec 06: In a bid to alleviate the sufferings of the people of N & M Andaman and Nicobar districts due to the sheer dearth of Doctors and Medical Specialists, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has taken multiple steps to further increase the availability of doctors in the islands.
According to a recent update 15 Specialist Doctors have been reportedly appointed by the Directorate of Health Services.There were many vacant posts of Medical Specialists especially in North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar District Hospitals.
The hospitals in the two districts have been facing an acute shortage of specialist medics which in turn affected the medical service inexplicably.
The Government has taken steps to further increase the availability of doctors in the entire state, particularly in the underserved regions like N & M Andaman and Nicobar districts. The present move is aimed at overcoming the shortage of doctors and specialists.
A Senior Officer of the Health Department said that 11 Specialist Doctors were appointed by the DHS for its hospitals between March 2022 to June this year. Subsequently, the DHS further approved the recruitment process for 19 more new Specialist Doctors in which 15 candidates (Specialist Doctors) filled the applications for the desired posts and who were later duly recruited by the DHS.
The 15 Specialist Doctors who have been recruited are Anaesthetist (03 Nos.), Medical Specialists (04 Nos), 01 No. of Specialist (Obst. and Gynae), 03 Nos. of Surgical Specialists, 01 post of Dermatologist Specialist, 02 posts of Pediatricians, and 01 post of Radiologist as notified and are expected to join the service soon.
“If everything goes smoothly then immediately the specialist doctors will be posted at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Bambooflat, Nicobar, Garacharma and Nancowrie”, the Official further added.
